An ode to ancient Country before the imprint of people, development and intensification. It imagines no single place, but many: the Pilbara, Kimberley, central Queensland, the Northern Territory and South Australia, held together as one vast living commons. The painting reflects the deep connection between water, sky and land — from rain-bearing clouds and storm fronts to spring-fed rivers, channels and floodplains that carve through the landscape. Water falls, rises, gathers and moves, bringing colour, life and flow to the earth. Storm, stone, river and vegetation are not separate elements, but part of the same enduring system. Through heightened colour and sweeping movement, the work honours landscapes that feel both ancient and alive - shaped over immense time, yet constantly renewed. It speaks to nature as origin, force and provider: interconnected, sustaining and life-giving from the beginning.

This painting pays homage to the old shed on Mount Brisbane Road, Mount Pleasant—a weathered landmark all the locals know and love. To me, it signifies the comforting feeling of being almost home. I’ve been meaning to capture it on canvas for years, and one morning, as winter mist settled over the paddocks and the rising sun painted the sky with soft, colourful hues, the scene came alive. It was the perfect moment to honour this humble yet iconic part of the landscape.
